Frequestly Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Ductless Fume Hood Certification Service?

Our Ductless Fume Hood Certification Service is designed to ensure your ductless fume hoods provide optimal protection against hazardous vapors generated on the work surface, without requiring outside venting. This service adheres to strict certification practices, offering guidance for testing and certification to ensure personnel and environmental safety.

What testing does Quantus' Fume Hood Certification services include?

The certification procedure encompasses several critical tests including Airflow Testing, Aerosol Challenge Installation Leak Test (if applicable), Airflow Smoke Pattern Test, and the Isoamyl Acetate Test. These tests verify the hood's performance in maintaining safe airflow, integrity of HEPA filters, proper containment of smoke patterns, and effectiveness of carbon filters in containing odors and vapors.

What are the responsibilities of Quantus in the certification process?

Quantus is responsible for providing all necessary measurement standards, documentation, and qualified service personnel as defined in the project scope/agreement. Our team adheres to detailed methods and client site-specific requirements throughout the certification process to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality are met.

What is ASHRAE 110 testing, and why should customers consider it for their fume hoods?
  • ASHRAE 110 testing is a standardized method developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for testing the performance of laboratory fume hoods. Quantus offers ASHRAE 110 testing to evaluate the safety, efficiency, and overall performance of laboratory fume hoods. This testing involves a series of procedures, including face velocity measurements, smoke pattern tests, and tracer gas containment tests, to ensure that fume hoods adequately protect laboratory personnel from hazardous fumes and vapors.

Benefits and Reasons for Choosing ASHRAE 110 Testing:

  1. Enhanced Safety: By ensuring that fume hoods operate effectively, ASHRAE 110 testing helps protect laboratory personnel from exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances.

  2. Compliance with Standards: This testing ensures that your laboratory fume hoods meet recognized safety standards, which is essential for meeting regulatory requirements and obtaining certifications.

  3. Improved Efficiency: The testing can identify areas where fume hood performance can be optimized, leading to better air quality and energy savings by ensuring that hoods are not over-ventilating and wasting energy.

  4. Preventive Maintenance: It helps in identifying potential issues before they become significant problems, reducing downtime and costly repairs in the future.

  5. Peace of Mind: Knowing that your fume hoods have been tested and certified to meet ASHRAE 110 standards provides peace of mind that your laboratory environment is safe and compliant with industry best practices.

Choosing ASHRAE 110 testing with Quantus not only ensures compliance with industry standards but also demonstrates your commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.

What happens if adjustments or repairs are needed after testing?

If the "As Found" readings are not within the acceptance criteria, we immediately notify the customer of the out-of-tolerance (OOT) condition before making any adjustments. Necessary adjustments and/or repairs are then performed, followed by re-testing to ensure the unit meets specified tests. A new certification label is affixed once the unit is within acceptance criteria, and we ensure the unit is returned to its original condition, notifying end users as necessary.
